Josie Dutil is the Health & Wellness Director of Hockomock Area YMCA – North Attleboro Branch, in Franklin, Massachusetts. She describes their wellness center as The North Attleboro YMCA wellness center is a beautifully well-lit, clean and welcoming fitness center with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, state-of-the-art cardio equipment that helps members get results, and the perfect blend of strength machines, free weights and open functional training space. hymca

In Josie’s opinion what separates their gym from other gyms is the cleanliness and quality of the equipment and space, the natural lighting from large windows that surround the space and most importantly, the relationships that are fostered with the help of our outgoing staff.

The biggest mistake Josie sees most people make when exercising is that they come to the wellness center and only do cardiovascular exercise expecting that this will take care of their health and well-being. The addition of strength training to a workout routine would have tremendous effects on helping anyone reach their health and wellness goals.

In Josie’s experience, the biggest mistake she sees other gyms make is their lack of community. The North Attleboro YMCA works very hard to connect and engage with members and help them connect and engage with other members based on similar interests, thus helping them form small communities within the larger Y community.

The North Attleboro Y is more than more than a gym. Their youth program includes preschool program, Before and After School Child Care, and Child Watch & Kids Club where parents can safely leave their young children while they work out. They also have swim lessons, swim teams and Lifeguard and CPR Training for youth.  They also have Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Dodgeball, Flag Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lacrosse, Parkour & Free-running, Running & Triathlon, Soccer, Sports Samplers, Tennis, Dance, Fitness, Martial Arts and Rock Climbing for their youth members. For their adult members they provide group exercise classes, personal training, nutrition, senior activities, health management, adult basketball, martial arts, rock climbing, adult swim lessons, and many different low-impact water exercise classes including aqua Arthritis classes. For the family, they have friends & family events, teen outreach, birthday parties, community gardens, water fitness classes, and family swim time.

Strengthening the community is their cause. Every day, they work side by side with their neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, background, or ability, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
